Abstract
Sometime during a college summer (2001-2005) I heard about a hackable “internet appliance” you could buy from CompUSA for $100. It was intended to work only with a monthly service subscription, but it was easily convertible into a full desktop computer.
So I got one, hacked it and stuffed it into my ’93 Oldsmobile. We used a DOS-based MP3 player called MPXPlay which was super sweet, and at stoplights we loudly played obnoxious sounds to the delight of our neighbors in adjacent lanes.
